The CD PROJEKT Capital Group’s financial performance for the first quarter of 2015 reflects a period of significant investment and transition, characterized by a net loss of 5.2 million PLN. This downturn, compared to the 1.5 million PLN profit recorded in the same period of 2014, is primarily attributed to the heavy capitalization of development costs associated with the highly anticipated launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While the videogame development segment incurred a loss of 4.88 million PLN, the GOG.com digital distribution platform maintained profitability, contributing 0.66 million PLN in earnings.
The group’s total assets reached 264.1 million PLN by the end of March 2015, bolstered by a substantial increase in inventories related to ongoing game development. To ensure greater financial transparency and comparability, the company implemented several accounting policy updates, including a shift to weighted average inventory valuation and the reclassification of exchange rate differences. These adjustments, alongside the maintenance of a going concern status, underscore a strategic focus on long-term asset valuation and the stabilization of financial instruments.
Geographically and operationally, the group remains centered on its Polish headquarters while managing global digital distribution. Despite the quarterly loss and the presence of ongoing legal disputes—including a long-standing claim against the Polish State Treasury—the company secured its financial flexibility through extended credit and derivative agreements. Management maintains that the group’s future performance is intrinsically linked to the release schedule of its major titles. Consequently, the organization entered the second quarter of 2015 with a focus on leveraging its intellectual property and expanding its digital storefront to offset the development-heavy expenditures of the preceding months.
