CD Projekt
CD PROJEKT experienced significant financial growth during the first half of 2020, driven by the sustained popularity of its established intellectual properties and a surge in global demand for digital entertainment. The company reported 364 million PLN in sales revenues, representing a nearly 70 percent increase over the same period in 2019. Net profit saw a more dramatic rise, nearly tripling to reach 147 million PLN. This performance was bolstered by the successful expansion of The Witcher franchise onto new hardware platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, and the mobile releases of GWENT on iOS and Android.
The global COVID-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for these results, as movement restrictions led to increased consumer engagement with digital distribution platforms. While capitalizing on current titles, the company maintained a heavy focus on future growth, investing 114 million PLN into development projects during the first half of the year. Cumulative expenditures on these projects reached 483 million PLN, primarily directed toward the highly anticipated release of Cyberpunk 2077.
To maintain momentum despite the cancellation of traditional industry events, the organization pivoted to digital marketing strategies. This included the Night City Wire broadcast series, which attracted 1.7 million live viewers for its debut, and the coordination of remote hands-on sessions for over 120 international journalists. Furthermore, the company expanded its portfolio by announcing the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series and the augmented reality mobile title The Witcher: Monster Slayer. These initiatives underscore a strategic shift toward cross-media expansion and mobile gaming as core pillars of the company’s long-term development roadmap.
