Gamecity Hamburg has initiated its 2026 Prototype Funding program, a strategic effort to support the development of digital games within the Hamburg region. The program provides non-repayable financial assistance to local founders, start-ups, and small to medium-sized enterprises. Eligible applicants must be based in Hamburg or demonstrate a commitment to relocating or establishing a branch within the city.
The initiative makes a total of 400,000 euros available for the 2026 cycle. Individual projects may receive up to 80,000 euros, covering as much as 80 percent of total project costs. To ensure project viability and alignment with program requirements, applicants are mandated to undergo a consultation with Gamecity Hamburg at least two weeks prior to the application deadline.
The selection process is managed by an expert Awarding Committee, which includes representatives from prominent industry entities such as Daedalic Entertainment, Goodgame Studios, and ROCKFISH Games, alongside government officials from the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media. Following the application window, which runs from February 23 to March 30, 2026, the committee will review submissions and conduct pitch sessions on May 6 to determine the final funding recipients. This program serves as a key component of the broader regional support ecosystem designed to foster innovation and growth within the Hamburg games industry.
