PlayWay S.A. has officially expanded its development portfolio through the acquisition of a majority stake in Space Boat Studios, a game development and publishing house based in Łódź, Poland. On January 19, 2018, the Warsaw-based company entered into an investment agreement with three individual shareholders to purchase 51 shares in the entity. Each share carries a nominal value of 200 PLN, resulting in a total transaction value of 510,000 PLN. Following this acquisition, PlayWay holds a 51% controlling interest in the company, while the remaining equity is distributed among the original partners at 21%, 18%, and 10% respectively. The strategic rationale for this investment centers on the commercial potential of Space Boat Studios' existing intellectual property and its future development pipeline. At the time of the transaction, the studio’s flagship title, Out of Reach, had already achieved significant market penetration on the Steam platform, recording sales of 100,000 units and maintaining a substantial wishlist of 163,000 prospective buyers. These metrics demonstrate a proven track record of player engagement and a solid foundation for brand expansion within the competitive PC gaming market. Moving forward, the studio is leveraging its established IP to capitalize on emerging industry trends by developing a new title set within the Out of Reach universe. This upcoming project focuses on the rapidly growing Battle Royale genre, specifically integrating fast-paced online multiplayer mechanics with a pirate-themed setting. By combining a popular gameplay format with a distinct historical aesthetic, the studio aims to differentiate its offering within the Steam ecosystem. This acquisition aligns with PlayWay’s broader corporate strategy of investing in specialized studios with demonstrated sales performance and scalable project concepts.
