PlayWay S.A. has formally expanded its investment portfolio by acquiring a significant minority stake in the Krakow-based game development studio Moonlit Sp. z o.o. This transaction, executed on November 2, 2016, follows the terms of an investment agreement originally established in April 2016. By contributing a cash investment of 199,950 PLN toward an increase in share capital, PlayWay secures a 30% ownership interest in the developer. This strategic move integrates Moonlit into PlayWay’s broader ecosystem of affiliated production houses, reflecting the company’s established business model of funding and overseeing diverse development teams.
The capital injection is specifically earmarked for the completion and production of two distinct software projects. Moonlit will utilize the funds to finalize the development of The Final Frontier and to finance the production of a second title currently identified by the working name POK. This allocation of resources highlights a focus on ensuring the commercial delivery of existing intellectual property while simultaneously seeding new projects within the studio’s pipeline.
The scope of this action is centered on the Polish domestic gaming market, involving a Warsaw-based parent company and a Krakow-based subsidiary. The transaction was disclosed in accordance with European market abuse regulations regarding inside information, signaling its material importance to PlayWay’s financial and operational standing. This acquisition reinforces the trend of consolidation and project-based financing within the Polish indie and mid-tier development sectors during the mid-2010s.
